An Old Friend

I woke up this morning not quite knowing what would unfold. There is excitement in far off places and distant shores unknown.  I greeted the dawn and stepped out onto the path of a new day. It winded and weaved in its familiar way. Then somewhere between sunrise and starry night it took a turn and I found myself staring at the home of an old friend.

I walked through the door nostalgia thick in the air. Apprehension overtook,  what would I find here? Had it been too long? Have the memories faded beyond recognition? No such worries could take root as my eyes took in the scene before me.  Curled up in a cozy chair by the fire was my friend with two mugs of steaming Earl Grey in hand.

We sat nestled by the fire sipping our tea, wandering done memories cheery lane. Time had not passed us by. In fact it stood still. Hours melted on neither of us wanting to leave the other after such an absence. So we made resolutions. Appointments were penned into calendars. Firm dates were set. At the door we parted, I into the cool of evening that held with it the promise of fall and they back into the warmth of their home.

What joy it is to find old friends. Those who hold pieces that complete the stories of our lives. How sweet it is to feel their familiar embrace! Oh, how could we have been gone so long? Let us resolve to never be thusly parted again.

~Hello again dear friend. My how I've missed you.~
