A New Name

For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. And the gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name. Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the Lord delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. for as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee. ~ Isaiah 62:1-5

On November 3, 2012 I received a new name. I willingly gave up my old name and let go of all that it meant, to take on the new name of my husband.

My old name was associated with my life as a single woman, as a woman under the care and protection of her father. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people and thy father's house; so shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. ~Psalm 45:10-11  I am now a married woman, a garden enclosed, a spring shut up, a fountain sealed (Song of Solomon 4:12) to all but my beloved.
I was given from my father's care into his. He is the one I submit to in all things, as is pleasing to the Lord. Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. ~Ephesians 5:22-24 I entered into covenant with this wonderful man of mine and in return he offered me his love, his protection, his provision, his comfort, his name.

Marriage between a man and a woman is the way the Lord chose to reveal the mystery that is the relationship between Christ and his bride, the church (Ephesians 5:32). There is no other relationship on earth as intimate as the marriage relationship, where man and woman become one flesh. This is the mystery that the church (one body made up of many members) is to be one with Christ. And just as my husband gave me an engagement ring as his earnest, his promise to one day marry me so God has given us the holy Spirit as an earnest for what we will one day have in full, the very near presence of Jesus our faith realized! In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself: that where I am there ye may be also. ~John 14:2-3

Forsaking all others I entered into covenant in the same way to enter into covenant with Jesus, to bear his name means the forsaking of everything else. Your old name is gone and your old life with it in return you have something far better, new life in Christ. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed way; behold all things are become new. ~2 Corinthians 5:17 Ye adulterers and adulteresses know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. ~James 4:4  I give him my life, my obedience, my submission, and in return he gives me everlasting life,  life abundant, his protection and provision, his peace and rest, his joy, his love... the list is endless.

I will always look upon my wedding day as one of the most amazing days in my life, still there is one greater yet to come another wedding day. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. ~Revelation 19:7-9

It is those who are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, who have been washed in his blood, those are they who will be at the wedding feast. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receive it. ~Revelation 2:17

Just as a bride prepares for her wedding day and her groom let us prepare for that coming day when we will be wed to the lover of our souls, our perfect, spotless bride groom. May we be found faithful, over comers till the end; as Paul said For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 11:2  What a glorious day that is coming.
