Our Perfect High Priest

All through the book of Hebrews you see that Jesus is our perfect and faithful High Priest:

Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest  in things pertaining to God to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted. ~Hebrews 2:17-18

He is our intercessor who bore our infirmities, who was tempted as we are yet without sin. He is able to comfort us at every level because he walked this earth as we do now! Recently this thought of Jesus as our perfect high priest and intercessor took on a new form.

A few months ago in July my little one experienced a pain that all little ones must, his first tooth broke through. As a mom it was very hard to see him in such pain knowing there was little I could do to comfort him or take it away. I held him, gave him icy things, rubbed special ointment on his gums, but all of these things only provided temporary relief. As I sat holding him that night rubbing his back and singing to him, I began to pray. I asked for comfort and relief, for peace and rest for my son and as I prayed I realized that Jesus too had at one time to go through this pain. I wasn't praying to God who didn't know what my little one was feeling, I was praying to God who intimately walked through this very same thing! I was amazed once again at how wonderful and perfect our God is. That he came and dwelt as we do on this earth feeling the same things we do, that we can than take comfort in knowing that when we pray he hears us from a true ear of understanding. Since having a little on I have had these glimpses of the Lord as our perfect high priest being able to intercede on our behalf from even the finest of needs like that of a tooth poking through for the first time. I am thankful.

I couldn't find any pictures of him showing off his new tooth. He now has two bottom ones and the top two are also starting to poke through.
